Mike is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt under Jake Nickoson. Mike began his jiu-jitsu journey training under Professor Jorge Gurgel and Jake back in 2017. Mike teaches out kid’s jiu-jitsu classes, fundamentals, and assists in all over adult classes.
Mike believes strongly in personal responsibility, hard work, and integrity which he strives to instill through his coaching style and personal example. His passion is for influencing the next generation and working with veterans and first responders.
Prior to starting Artisan, Mike was a police officer for 13 years serving in a multitude of roles in SWAT as well as K9. He instructed other fellow officers in firearms, tactics, active violence response, and as a field training officer for new recruits.
Before entering law enforcement, Mike served in the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. He is a graduate of the US Army’s Infantry School, Airborne School, Ranger School, Sniper School, and Warrior Leader Course. He obtained the rank of Sergeant and served as a sniper selection leader in a reconnaissance unit. Mike deployed for 450 days, conducting combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom
